Wooden Mountain: Freestanding All-in-One Hotel Suite

Gaze down at your hotel bed from a tub perched on the pinnacle of a wooden 'mountain' at Amsterdam's Volkshotel. The Edmund suite features an all-in-one, freestanding structure containing a double bed, wardrobe, mirror, shower, and toilet; climb the built-in stairs to reach the full-sized soaking tub and adjacent cactus garden.

Made of wood and rubber, the hotel pod has every function you'd expect in a standard hotel room clustered into an abstracted mountain shape. It fits within a larger room with an adjacent sitting area, and is one of nine unique suites in the hotel. Accommodating two, it rents out for about $129 per night.

It's an unusual twist on the room-in-a-box concept, which generally packs as much function as possible into a prefab unit, eliminating the need for separate furniture and closets. While other designs are often modular and/or rectilinear, this one takes a more artistic approach.
