Lebanese designer Manaaki played up his Middle Eastern heritage with a collection full of dramatically embellished evening wear that evoked the atmosphere of sultry Arabian nights. Audible “ooohs and ahhs” could be heard from the audience as models walked down the runway in bold citrus colors like this lime green satin evening gown with a delicately beaded sheer nude bodice. Vancouver Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2013 (Day 1)Gianni-Manaaki Although his collection was dominated by sparkle and shimmer, Manaaki proved that he also has a dark side with this Gothic, lingerie-inspired cocktail dress that featured a crocheted black overlay atop a solid skirt and cropped bustier top. Vancouver Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2013 (Day 1)Frederick_Fung Frederick Fung served up West Coast minimalism at it’s best with a collection that perfectly mixed urban basics like skinny cargo pants and cocktail dresses with subtle country influences like gingham and paisley. Mod on the front, flirty in the back, we can’t get enough of this backless gingham mini-dress. Vancouver Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2013 (Day 1)Theresa-Chen Next up, a futuristic re-imagining of school days of yore meets modern Chinoiserie–Theresa Chen’s collection featured models wearing shrunken blazers, shorts, and deconstructed pinafores while carrying distressed vintage satchels and suitcases down the runway. A perfect mix of past and future, this stunning red jumpsuit with traditional Chinese frog closures was a standout piece. Vancouver Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2013 (Day 1)Papillon Sweet, trend-savvy and totally wearable, Papillon presented a collection of dresses that could easily jump straight off of the runway and into your closet for spring. From beach to evening, this stripped, faux wrap dress would transition perfectly. Beauty
Fresh faced and natural, Frederick Fung featured minimal eye-makeup and long, tousled fishtail braids. Vancouver Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2013 (Day 1)Frederick-Fung-Vancouver-Fashion-Week-2012 Add to Your Kit
It’s all about lace–whether it’s featured on the whole garment or simply as an accent, this is a must-have fabric texture for spring/summer 2013. Embrace bold colors–cheery and citrus-inspired brights like lime and tomato red will definitely be with us for another season. When it comes to hair and makeup it’s all about keeping it fresh and simple: pair beachy, tousled hair with minimal makeup, adding just a swipe of black liquid liner for extra drama.
