This Guy Gives Professional Haircuts With a Samurai Sword

When one sits down for a haircut, there’s a certain amount of implicit trust in the hairstylist that they’re going to do what exactly what you want, in an efficient, beautiful manner. But one guy in Vietnam takes speediness and skill to the next level using tools not usually employed in his trade.

Nguyen Hoang Hung uses a Wakizashi sword, which is like a traditional razor-sharp Japanese Katana sword but shorter, to chop his clients’ locks. While completely terrifying, Hung insists that the unconventional instrument allows him to accomplish a unique, light, feathered look that isn’t possible with customary scissors.

After practicing for a month on ladies with longer hair, the blade master has now moved onto more complicated styles such as bobs and pixie cuts. Hung picked up his distinctive skill when he was on a game show that required hairstylists so cut hair without using scissors. At the time, he used a handsaw, but has since moved onto the stronger, less damaging tool.
