Rihanna in Real Life vs. Alicia Silverstone in ‘Clueless’ – Fashion Faceoff

Few women have the audacity to step out in a dress worn by one of the most fashionable characters in movie history. But that's just what the uber-confident Rihanna did when she wore the same iconic Calvin Klein slip dress that Cher Horowitz, played by Alicia Silverstone, memorably wore in the 1995 teen classic "Clueless." So did RiRi manage to make the look her own? Time for a '90s flashback edition of ... who wore it best?!

Rihanna, 24, sported a red version of the spaghetti-strap dress to GQ's Men of the Year soiree in L.A. on Tuesday. She took a cue from Silverstone's "Clueless" styling by accessorizing with a short necklace, and also added hoop earrings, while sporting a half-up, half-down hairstyle.

Silverstone, who was just 18 at the time "Clueless" was released, famously wore a white version of the sexy frock — much to the dismay of her overprotective father — for her first date with her crush Christian. The dress became so recognizable (from the scene that's at 1:33 in the trailer) that in 2010, the dress was reissued! According to InStyle, the reissue came about after Ilaria Urbinati, the co-owner of L.A. clothing store Confederacy, gushed about the design to the creative director for Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa. He then watched the scene, located the original dress pattern in the archives in Italy, and reproduced it for Urbinati's store, where both white and red versions landed on the racks for $915.

I remember being in awe of this smoking hot frock from the first time (of many, many times) that I watched "Clueless." So I'm impressed that Rihanna has made this Fashion Faceoff decision so tough. The "We Found Love" singer chose the perfect shade for her spicy personality, and no one can argue that she's not rocking this barely-there dress. Still, the teenage girl in me insists that the winner of this style showdown couldn't be anyone but Cher. Do you think I'm being overly nostalgic?
