Top 13 Olympic Fashion Moments (So Far!)

Nail art! This trend started at Vancouver 2010, when local gal Christina Culver painted Australian gold medal snowboarder Torah Bright’s nails gold—and they then appeared on an Australian postage stamp. This time around, there are stars, stripes, decals, and Union Jacks aplenty. Rebecca Adlington; Photos by Keystone Press

Ryan Lochte's grills and sneakers are insane. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you gotta give the guy credit for backing his brilliant swimming (two golds, two silvers, and one bronze) with some fashionable antics. Word is he wants to work in fashion when he retires from swimming. Ryan Lochte; Photo by Keystone Press

Gymnast leotards are, like the skating dresses at the Winter Games, one of our favourite parts of the Summer Olympics. They’re sparkly, they’re shiny, they’re… spandex! Love the statement necklace effect on US gymnast Gabrielle Douglas’ leotard. Her gold medal in the artistic gymnastics women's individual all-around competition will go well with that. You could practically hear the collective “ahhh” when Scottish singer Emeli Sande stepped out onto the stage during the Opening Ceremony in this Jonathan Saunders blue-black ombré gown. Emeli Sande; Photo by Keystone Press

There’s no end to Team GB pride during these Games, as you can see from the streets of London. Thankfully, street style photographer (and Canadian-cum-Londoner) Michelle Bobb-Parris has also spotted a few other, more subtle, fashionable outfits. Photos by Michelle Bobb-Parris

From her involvement in creating all of the Team GB kit to her dad’s stellar performance at the Opening Ceremony, Stella McCartney has been everywhere—and documenting it on Instagram. Photos Courtesy of Stella McCartney

Known as the “party” event of London 2012, beach volleyball supporters have been treated to halftime routines by women wearing retro swimsuits and Bettie Page bangs. The highlight of these performances? Judging by the number of close-up photos on Google, their pert butts. Photo by Keystone Press

Surprisingly, the A-listers haven’t been hitting the events regularly (maybe the warnings about the Olympic Park’s airport security turned them off), but there are a few that have shown up—some looking more patriotic than others. Nicole Kidman wore Azzedine Alaïa to the private opening of Omega House in Soho and a classic basic white blouse and black blazer to the Opening Ceremony of the Games. While Brooklyn Decker sported a red-and-white striped shirt and “patriotic” bib necklace by Dannijo when she turned up to watch her husband, Andy Roddick, beat Slovakia’s Martin Klizan. Fashion gals love their Isabel Marant hidden-wedge sneaks, but the award for trendiest kicks at the Games goes to Nike, hands down. The neon yellow spikes that at least one athlete in every track and field event has sported? They’re all from its “Volt collection”. Photo Courtesy of Nike

Thanks to Sarah Mower and the British Fashion Council, 350 of the Opening Ceremony dancers wore costumes designed by a trio of relatively unknown Brit designers: Michael Van der Ham, Christopher Shannon, and Nasir Mazhar. Photo by Getty Images

Synchronized swimming is a bit of an odd sport (we get a bit freaked out by how long those girls can hold their breath), but kudos to Russian duo Natalia Ischenko and Svetlana Romashina for having the wackiest costumes of the Games. Seriously: amazing. Photo by Keystone Press

Kate Middleton and Prince Wills have been a constant fixture at the Games—how cute was it seeing him pick her up in excitement at the velodrome?!—but her outfits have been less than exciting. Less than a month after debuting her bright blue Stella McCartney shift dress, she wore it again topped off by the Smythe blazer she first wore last year in Canada. And the pastel Christopher Kane she wore to the Opening Ceremony? Pretty, but a bit meh. Photo by Keystone Press

Besides the cute Heidi-esque braid/high ponytails that some of the (mostly eastern European) competitors have been sporting to keep their bangs back, we’re loving the effort some of the athletes have been putting into their accessories. We spotted American Sanya Richards-Ross in Chanel studs, winning the gold medal in the women's 400m race. Tres chic! Photo by Keystone Press
