STRIPES, STRIPES, STRIPES Horizontal, vertical, pin-thin 'railroad' or bold bars; all manner of stripes streaked down the runway. In a deconstructivist twist, dresses at Alexander Wang featured 'cutout' stripes, with horizontal bands removed from the main body. Also seen at: Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Tommy Hilfiger.

SUMMER LEATHER Countless designers made a strong case for leather's year-round appeal and versatility. SIXTIES It was a mod, mod world at Marc Jacobs, who celebrated the swinging sixties with high contrast patterns and proportion play. Michael Kors played off the decade's upbeat spirit with boxy silhouettes, zippers and grommet hardware, and a punchy (and mostly primary) colour palette. Kors accessorized with retro-futuristic 'googles' and lucite-heeled sandals.

Proenza Schouler's screens were soft-focus panoramas of dense crowds and pool-bound vacationers. At Michael Kors, hyper-real prints with a were drawn from nature, with scattered cloud and rippling pool prints, reminding of screen saver art.

EMBELLISHED SPORTSWEAR Daytime staples got their dose of glam care of 3-D pailettes (on a pencil skirt at Derek Lam) and sequined collars (on a button-down at Creatures of the Wind). Amongst all the bright colours within the J Crew line-up, it was a blue oxford shirt, it's front studded with gems, that really dazzled.

IN THE LOOP Runways were full of dreamweavers, from geometric paneled pieces at Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, to looser, bohemian-inflected looks at Tory Burch.

DARE TO BARE Fleshy colour palettes (Reed Krakoff, The Row), transparent panels and layers (Helmut Lang, 3.1 Phillip Lim), and lingerie-inspired silhouettes (Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein) were a refreshingly feminine sight to see.
