This has been a big year for Monica Lewinsky who has reemerged into the public eye after decades of hiding. In March, she gave an impressive TED Talk, weaving her own story about the strenuous Clinton years, into the effects of cyberbulling and why it needs to stop. (Some sites, like this one, even called her a next-gen feminist.)

So we’re all for her and for girl power, but we do have some reservations about this red off-the-shoulder dress that she wore to Sunday night’s Tony Awards. For a woman her age (Lewinsky is in her 40s now), it reads just a bit too young. While the silhouette is lovely, the lace bodice, with white underlay, is a bit distracting. Also matching the red hot shade to her clutch was a slightly prom-y move (even more so if the shoes completed the trifecta). As it stands, the marble-colored slingbacks are also slightly off.

Lewinsky, who is very good friends with the evening’s cohost Alan Cumming, is probably there to support her friend. And she does look healthy even if the outfit is not totally our style. Perhaps, after years of hiding in shame, she’s ready to present a bold new version of herself. And for that we say, brava.
