Match your Louboutins to your wedding lehenga

If there's one other thing you should know about Christian Louboutin, it is this: the man whose last name is now a synonym for high heels is also an expert on the Indian wedding.

"The scale, the importance, the excitement… it is difficult to understand unless you have been fortunate enough to attend one," he says. "Weddings in Europe are not as detail-oriented as compared to here. For example, for the mehendi ceremony, it is important for the henna design to be seen, so you would need to wear a pair of sandals."

Catering to the wildest whims of demanding brides, brand Louboutin will launch their bespoke wedding service this month.

Operating exclusively out of a spanking new Wedding Suite at the brand's Horniman Circle outpost in Mumbai, the service allows its customers to pick a shoe, and then tinker with colour, fabric, heel height, even ornamentation to suit their specific needs.

A drop-down table in the atelier is christened the 'sari table', meant for resting bejewelled trousseau garments while you select a sole mate.

"Say you want to incorporate a piece of jewellery onto the shoe, or pay homage to your Gujarati lineage by using special embroidery from the region, we can do it," Louboutin explains.

Of course, such amenability requires a six-month advance notice to rule out potential bridezilla disasters.

"In the worst case scenario -- what if the bride puts on weight and her foot measurements change -- I want to have the possibility of a back-up," the designer explains. "The clothes, the jewels, the make-up… the whole arrangement stands on a pedestal, the shoe. I have to take care of that pedestal."
