Khloe Kardashian: 'North Has a Better Wardrobe Than I Do'

“Kourtney and Kim overrule me on so many things. I’m like, ‘Can we have ballerina tutus?’ and they’re like, ‘No,’” says Khloe Kardashian of working with her sisters on their latest collection for Kardashian Kids. “Sometimes it gets discouraging for me but we always meet in the middle and it always turns out great — but they definitely gang up.” Khloe, 30, who admits she’s normally “used to always winning the battle” when it comes to business with her siblings, doesn’t mind conceding (for this venture, at least), which launches on Nordstrom.com April 13.

Khloe, who doesn’t have kids, adds value in other constructive ways, considering her “cool Aunt” status to Kim’s daughter North West and Kourtney’s kids Mason, Penelope, and Reign Disick. “Kourtney and Kim—they have such different styles of how they dress their kids, yet they all look so cute and you can see that in the line.” Khloe says there are pieces like a little jumpsuit or romper that she swears “could see P all over it.” As for North, who’s more of a “neutral, charcoal, and black” color palette kind girl, there are some casual tops and a peplum high-waisted short that, according to Khloe, you’ll definitely see her in soon.

While North has more of an Alexander Wang punk rock vibe (”She definitely has a better wardrobe than I do but what are you going to do?”)—she often sports Doc Martens and even sat front row at the designer’s most recent New York Fashion Week show—Khloe advocates for the toddler to be more “girlified” (her word, not mine). “[Kim] put North in a baby pink tutu and leotard to take her to ballet class and she texted me and said, ‘Look what I put her in just for you!’ Because I always want her in tutus and glitter,” she says. “Obviously, everyday your kid can’t dress like that but I thought it was funny that she texted me to be like, ‘Are you proud of me?’”

Speaking of pride, the sisters put a lot of work into the line, which includes boys offerings for the first time. The sisters have mood boards for every collection that feature photos of the third generation Kardashians, and they find inspiration on play dates with other Calabasas kids and from their mommy and me classes. A lot of research and development also went into creating it, such as complying with regulations for kids with button sizes and types of zippers, as well as making sure everything is comfortable and convenient. Kourtney’s also “really big on having everything organic” so certain dyes and fabrics were off limits.

The price is also on point. For girls, the ruffled dresses, bloomers, and tanks in floral and geometric patters are all under $35 and $29 and below for the boys. “When you’re going to do a new trend or put your child in something that you only get a few wears out of, you don’t want to spend a few hundred dollars on kids clothing,” Khloe says. For a Kardashian customer, this is especially important because of their avid army of mini copycat Instagrammers and bloggers. “If you search the hashtag #KardashianKids, you’ll see how these parents dress up their kids and they tag us in it. Sometimes when I’m bored I like to like their photos to show parents that I appreciate them. They do photoshoots even!” She admits that they’re “actually really inspiring” and it motivates them for future pieces.

“I’m learning so much for when I have kids,” she says. And when that does happen, expect a lot more Khloe. She’s not one to lose a fight.
