How to make a 'diva den'

Who says the den has to be a space sacred only to men? Women like to enjoy down time in a comfortable, cozy space as well.

Whether you’re hosting the biggest party on the block for events like the Super Bowl, watching the latest new release or looking to create an everyday oasis to unwind in after a long day, there are a few things to keep in mind when creating the ultimate ‘diva den.’

Get rid of clutter

Chances are your guests will want to mingle with one another while also having a clear view of any game-day action. “Limit as many obstructions in your diva den as possible by upgrading electronics or improving the ones you have,” says Kushal Samy, Senior Marketing Manager at Future Shop.

You can hire technology experts to come in to your home and have them tidy and hide wires, and mount your television, or you can do it yourself to ensure an optimal viewing experience. A
quick clean of the space will go a long way as well.

Sound matters

Once you start watching your favourite movies and television programs with full surround sound, you’ll never want to live without the lifelike sounds. The right sound system will also ensure you have the sound you need for the important moments like a striking monologue or the halftime show but are still able to tone it down when necessary.

“If you're like me, you are looking forward to Madonna's performance and like watching it more than the actual game,” says Samy.

Have the right controls

“Let's be honest, your taste in commercials and entertainment might be different than your family's. By using an all-in-one controller, or a remote controlled by your tablet, you can guarantee sole control of any device in the room,” says Samy.

Relax to the max

Things like colour and furniture are basic starting points for making your diva den a relaxing zen-like space. You can take the relaxation one step further by adding a few of the latest gadgets to help you put your feet up. Samy suggests adding a percussion foot massage or a therapy body massage to really help you unwind.

Don’t forget the snacks

Samy says you can really wow your guest with a theatre-style popcorn maker or small wine and juice cooler, which can both fit nicely in to most spaces. Today’s appliances are sleek, small and can often complement your décor.

Classic recipes like pigs in a blanket are always a hit, and veggies with one of these simple party dips can be made ahead of time so come game day you can spend more time with your guests. Try making your own potato chips in the microwave to cut down on fat.
