Feeling Blue: How To Wear Aqua Eyeshadow

Feeling Blue: How To Wear Aqua EyeshadowFeeling Blue: How To Wear Aqua EyeshadowAqua-coloured eyes are a hot (err, maybe cool?) trend for the season, as spotted on many of the spring/summer runways.  Now, blue lids may look great on stage (hello memories of dance recital make-up!), but any non-neutral shade of shadow can be rather intimidating for us realway girls to pull off. Liven up your winged liner and use an aqua cream liner instead of basic black. Try Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo in Tenacious Teal with a synthetic angled brush to easily draw and flick out those tails. Related: The Secret To Cat-Eye Makeup Without Liquid Liner Block-qua
Colour blocking is a huge trend everywhere this season: from hair, to clothing to eyeshadow! The trick to mastering this look without looking like a trend victim is precision. For ultimate control, I use a synthetic angled brush to first trace out the block shape and then colour within the line downwards to the lashline. Tip:  If you don’t get the blocks even on the first attempt, don’t fret! Just use a pointed q-tip with a tiny bit of eye make-up remover to balance out the application. To add a little more interest to a typical black smoky eye, layer a black shadow on top of the Tenacious Teal cream shadow. The layering effect of the different colours adds gorgeous dimension to an otherwise flat and matte smoky eye. The Colour Tattoo cream shadow also doubles as a base, giving the look long lasting power, which is a bonus and necessity when doing a smoky eye. Overall, the key to pulling off a pop of colour on the eyes is to 1) not take the shadow all the way to the brow (a la Mimi)…and 2) to keep the rest of your make-up simple.  Choose a level of intensity that you’re comfortable with, and that way you’ll be on trend…without the trend wearing you.  Now that’s always fresh.
