Couple renews vows 100 times: Crazy or genius?

In 1984, David and Lauren Blair got married. Since then, they’ve tied the knot a record-breaking 100 times — to each other.

The couple holds the Guinness World Record for "Most Marriage Vow Renewals by the Same Couple,” but they claim the record wasn’t the motivation for their renewals, each held at a different location.

"We were both in long-term relationships in the past that didn't work out," Lauren told Guinness World Records. "We knew we were meant for each other and wanted to continually share that vow experience. I love to look into David's eyes as he is repeating his vows. I know that this man will love me until the day I die."

What if there’s genius behind this repeated-renewal madness?

We’re always eager to hear the secrets, tips and advice that will give us the upper hand in relationships. And it looks like the Blairs have taken most of this advice to heart:

Redbook says a key to a long-lasting marriage is to “have crazy adventures.”The Blairs have that category mastered.

Another secret? “Show him some love.” If verbal affirmation is priceless within marriage, re-reciting vows might actually be pretty strategic in keeping the love alive.

Jenny Gardiner, author of “Sleeping with Ward Cleaver,” warns, “It’s easy to take each other for granted — that’s the unfortunate thing about long-term relationships — if one starts doing it, then the other one does too, and it snowballs.” Again, the Blair’s repeated knot-tying forces them to return to why they first fell in love.

Another tip: Listening and looking. At least 100 times in the past 27 years, David and Linda have stared into each other’s eyes, listening to beautiful words of commitment.

With marriage steadily on the decline, maybe we need a little sweet optimism around the institution.

And maybe we can learn from the Blairs and introduce our everyday lives to a little newlywed bliss.

What do you think? Are they crazy or just crazy in love?
