Brittany Maynard Decides That Death Can Wait a Little Longer

Earlier this month, Yahoo Health reported on the heartbreaking story of Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old newlywed who announced her decision to end her life after being diagnosed with stage IV glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of terminal brain cancer. In a video that went viral (to date, it has received 8.8 million views), Maynard said she wanted to “die with dignity” — focusing a national spotlight on the growing “death with aid” movement. The date Maynard targeted was Nov 1.
But in a new video released Wednesday night, Maynard said she no longer has a set date. “I still feel good enough, and I still have enough joy, and I still laugh and smile with my family and friends enough that it doesn’t seem like the right time right now,” Maynard explained.
On thebrittanyfund.org, Maynard shared photos from a recent trip to the Grand Canyon with her mother—the last item on her bucket list—and in the latest video, she said she hopes that her husband Dan will move on and start a family after she passes.

The evolution of Maynard’s story reveals the difficulties that come with making an end-of-life decision — a decision that Maynard maintains she will see through at some point. ”The worst thing that could happen to me is that I wait too long because I’m trying to seize each day.”
