Woman’s dying wish for husband’s new family will warm your heart

Woman’s dying wish for husband’s new family will warm your heart

In a touching act of extreme kindness, an Iowa mother of four and wife who died of ovarian cancer two years ago has granted her husband's new love the ultimate Christmas gift.

Brenda Schmitz passed away in September 2011 at the age of 46, but before she died, she had a friend write two very special letters -- one to her husband and one to her husband's future partner. She instructed her friend to mail the letters to the local radio station once her husband, David Schmitz, had moved on and found a new woman to love.

"When you are in receipt of this letter, I will have already lost my battle to ovarian cancer," Brenda's letter reads. "I told [my friend] once my loving husband David had moved on in his life and had met someone to share his life with again, to mail this letter to all of you at the station."

The radio station, which grants wishes to select listeners who write in each Christmas, received the letters on Thursday and broadcast them through the airwaves, as per Brenda's wishes, reports CNN.

"My reason for writing is this... I have a wish for David, the boys, and the woman and her family if she has kids also. I want them to know I love them very much," Brenda writes. She adds that she wants them to "always feel safe in a world of pain."

In the letters, Brenda expresses gratitude for a new woman to take on the role of parenting her children and loving David, and asks the radio station to treat her husband's new fiancée to a day at the spa.

"She deserves it, being a stepmother to all those boys," Brenda writes in her letter to her husband's future partner. "Make her smile and know her efforts are truly appreciated from me."

David's fiancée Jayne Abraham is touched by Brenda's letter, expressing affection and a deeper connection to a woman she has never met.

"I always tells David from the first day we met, I talk to Brenda. In my car sometimes we have a conversation about the family and I know she is definitely watching over us," says Jayne, who is most touched by the fact that Brenda says she loves her.

Brenda also asked the radio station to grant her husband and family a "magical trip" and to give the medical professionals that treated her in the hospital a fun night out.

"I was surprised, but in a way, I also wasn't," says David, who got engaged in September. "This was Brenda. She had so much forethought before she died... She told me to meet someone that would love the boys and treat them like her own. I asked her how I'd know when I met that person. Brenda said I would know because she'd be there."

The station claims in the 20 years that they've been granting Christmas wishes, they've never come across something as touching as Brenda's letters. They were able to grant all three of Brenda's wishes and will be sending Jayne and David's family to Disney World where Jayne will relax with a spa day. The medical staff who cared for Brenda will get free food provided by a local catering company.
