Victoria’s Secret ditches ‘Perfect Body’ slogan after backlash

Lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret has changed the wording of their “Perfect Body” campaign after coming under fire for “body shaming.”

The original ad featured a group of 10 slim models with the tagline: “The Perfect ‘Body.’” The tagline was a play on Victoria’s Secret’s popular “Body” line, but critics said that by positioning the words across models who have “exactly the same, very slim body type” it sent a damaging message. The ad sparked a Change.org petition which now has more than 25,000 signatures; a social media movement; as well as a recreated ad using a variety of body sizes.

On Thursday, campaigners noticed the advertisement had been changed on Victoria’s Secret official website.

The new ad features the same 10 models, but the text has been changed to “A Body For Every Body.” While the “Perfect Body” ad has been pulled from their website, a number of campaigners are noting it’s still in stores.

Victoria’s Secret has yet to release a formal statement about the change, but it’s already being met with mixed feedback.

While the change has been seen as step in the right direction by some, many are noting that it’s still not exactly showing diversity.

On Thursday, the creators of the Change.org petition posted an update on the campaign page:

This isn’t the first time that the company has come under fire for not being inclusive. In March of 2013, the company said no to producing a line of “survivor” bras for women who had undergone a mastectomy. The same year, they were petitioned to include a transgender model in their lineup.
