Vera Wang’s spring 2015 bridal collection unveiled in creepy, dark video

Vera Wang’s spring 2015 bridal collection unveiled in creepy, dark video

Renowned bridal gown designer Vera Wang is no stranger to bucking tradition. She is, after all, the reason brides are showing up to their weddings dressed in black.

But Wang's latest move, which has been dubbed her boldest, is just downright odd.

The much-anticipated debut of her spring 2015 bridal collection didn't take place on a runway, as per usual. Instead, Wang chose to unveil her prized gowns in a video, and a creepy one at that.

In the one-and-a-half minute video, which was released Sunday, impossibly waif-like models saunter in a zombie-like state through a dystopian fairytale of a set, which includes a horridly creepy forest and an elegant, abandoned mansion.

Dark wood, burning black roses and the sultry sounds of Son Lux's song 'Easy' set the disturbing yet somewhat alluring tone -- it'll scare the hell out of you, but just try and take your eyes off it.

The models themselves are far from blushing brides. Limp, unwashed hair, bleached eyebrows and white eyelashes complement their pale, eerily placid dispositions.

The gowns themselves are stunning, elegant works of tulle and lace artwork in fitted, princess and mermaid styles -- classic Wang.

Standout pieces include a sheer Chantilly lace belted gown that leaves little to the imagination and a crop top-style two-piece with a romantic tulle ballgown skirt.

Wang tells WWD that her inspiration for the "dreamy and edgy" collection comes from the "lightness of being, delicate and discipline, sensual and seductive."

Edgy and seductive? Yes. Dreamy and light? Not so much.

In a media release, the designer takes another unprecedented leap by revealing that these gowns aren't meant to be strictly for brides (or, in this case, apocalyptic zombies).

"Hopefully, people will realize that these dresses can be worn for anything," she writes. "They just happen to be white."

This latest collection is a drastic departure from Wang's fall 2014 offerings, which were all in varying shades of pink.

Wang shook the wedding fashion industry to its core in 2011 though, when she revealed her infamous fall 2012 collection and its series of moody black bridal gowns. Since then, she's dialed back the black, using it as an accent colour in the spring 2014 collection.

Whether Wang's latest take on bridal couture will become the latest in a series of unconventional wedding trends remains to be seen, but we're kind of hoping this creepy tone dies out quickly.
