Vancouver newlyweds say ‘I do’ while water-skiing

It couldn't be more fitting that Vancouver newlyweds Cam Auge and Caylee Wasilenko confirmed their vows on Wednesday wearing a pair of water-skis on Bedwell Bay. After all, the pair did meet while swimming at the University of British Columbia pool.

“It’s original and completely us — we love doing crazy funny stuff,” Auge tells the Vancouver Sun of their nuptials in Bedwell Bay.

After they were declared husband and wife during an intimate 7-person wedding ceremony at the Vancouver Waterski Club, they strapped on a pair of water skis and hoped for the best.

“My mom’s biggest fear was that I was going to drown in the dress, because once it got wet it would be 50 pounds and it would drag me to the bottom,” explains Wasilenko. “So, I put a life-jacket underneath the dress to make her happy.”

Their first lap was unsuccessful, resulting in a dunk by Wasilenko, but their second lap was a winner.

Both 33-years-old, the couple who met six years ago are raising two young daughters and used to swim competitively. Their love of the water prompted them to choose the remote ski club to host their ceremony, which is accessible only by boat.

“We didn’t want to make a big deal out of the wedding,” Wasilenko says.

Auge adds, “We wanted something special because we’re both very creative and we wanted something we could remember and show our kids."

It turns out that Auge and Wasilenko are far from the first couple to water ski at their wedding. YouTube is filled with videos showing couples water skiing in their wedding attire either on their wedding day or on an anniversary.
