Upbeat nine-year-old cancer patient sings “I’m bald and I know it”

Charlie Futhey is 9 years old. He's been battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer for four years. And he's not having a pity party about it.

Two years ago, he was deemed cancer-free. This January, his family received bad news: the cancer — specifically, Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours (DSRCTs) — was back, requiring little Charlie to undergo another round of chemo.

So his mother, Sandy, shaved his head.

"The first swipe of the razor he got a huge smile on his face and said, 'Alright. I'm back'," she said.

Yes, he's bald again. And he knows it.

Sandy wrote the following on CaringBridge, an online journal that helps the Futheys raise money for Charlie's medical expenses:

"When we shaved his head he started seeing [sic] a song he made up called 'I'm bald and I know it.' We were amazed at the words he was coming up with. He then put dance moves to it, because you know he always has a song in his head and a jig in his heart! He was over at my sister's house one night and she taped him doing his song. We put it on YouTube for everyone to see. It warms my heart every time I see it. I love this kid's spirit! Hope you enjoy!"

Watch Charlie charm his way into your heart with his song-and-dance number, "I'm Bald and I Know It," an upbeat re-interpretation of LMFAO's "I'm Sexy and I Know It," below.

"When I walk in the spot, and this is what I see: everybody stops and comes toward me! I got passion in my heart, and I ain't afraid to show it, show it, show it — I'm bald and I know it," he sings.

"It's kind of a different game, going to third grade with a bald head, but I think that he's such an inspiration to other kids," Sandy Futhey, Charlie's mom, told Fox 4 News.

Charlie faces a grueling 18 months of chemo. With a positive outlook — he lets classmates rub his bald head for good luck — and supportive family, little Charlie says he's ready to face it head on.
