TIFF 2014: How to get a red carpet look in five minutes

It’s that time of year again! Stars are descending on Toronto for 2014’s Toronto International Film Festival — and we couldn’t be more excited to see our favourite celebrities rock fall’s boldest fashion and beauty trends.

And while celebs often spend hours in the makeup chair — we know most of us in the real world don’t have that kind of time. That’s why we asked Kate Watson, Too Faced’s Director of Education, for her tips on how to get a glam red-carpet worthy look in just five minutes.

Creating a glamorous look can be overwhelming, but Watson says zoning in on a few key areas is the secret to a picture-perfect look.

"A red carpet look is achieved with a focus on skin, eyes and mouth," she explains. Check out her step-by-step guide:

1. Perfect your skin. Your skin changes throughout the day based on your environment and skin type, so a flawless complexion is a red carpet must! Start with a clean face and apply a primer such as Hangover Primer all over to prep and balance the skin with moisture.

2. Focus on the T-Zone. Hot lights can cause your T-Zone to turn shiny, which is a red carpet no-no. A good base of primer, such as Primed and Poreless, over the T-Zone will ensure that your face looks smooth and poreless in the paparazzi glare.

3. Avoid “orange face.” Looking orange is a big red carpet faux pas, so use a subtle coloured powder foundation to achieve a bronze glow. Use your favourite brush, like Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush, Brush the powder from the centre of the face and sweep outward, repeating until you achieve your desired level of coverage.

4. Sculpt! Next, sculpt those cheekbones and warm up the high planes of your beautiful face. Complement your glow with a subtle matte bronzer.

5. Add a punch of colour and a sweep of mascara. Finish the look with beautiful lashes and a classic red-carpet worthy lip colour. If your skin is camera perfect, a simple sweep of a long-lasting mascara and a strong lip colour will let your true beauty shine through on the red carpet.
