Three biological brothers separated at birth reunite after 70 years

Three elderly American brothers who never met were brought together for the first time this weekend after being apart for more than 70 years.

Noel Thompson, 70, David Beyer, 75, and Donald Thompson, 92, met in Florida on Friday and spent the weekend at David's home getting to know each other before the other two brothers flew back to their respective homes across the country.

"You can't believe how much joy this has brought," middle child David tells ABC.

"I never thought this would happen," adds oldest brother Donald from Michigan. "I can't believe the bond that's been created between us, although we've only seen each other for the first time. The blood in our veins is mingling right now."

They say the similarities between them are not so much physical as they are mental.

All three brothers have the same biological father, but only the youngest two share the same biological mother. To further complicate matters, all three brothers were raised in separate homes.

Their father married his first wife and had Donald in 1921. Years later, he left her and met another woman which resulted in having David out of wedlock. Since the couple weren't married, they gave David up for adoption, but eventually married and had Noel.

"I knew Noel existed, but it would be a fleeting thought," David tells ABC.

David's daughter began an extensive search on Ancestry.com about four months ago to help her father find his youngest brother, Noel. That search led to the discovery that her father also had an older half-brother, Donald.

After weeks of researching and making cold calls, his daughter tracked down both of her father's brothers and finally united the trio.

"I guess it's like a person having an empty spot in their life and not realizing what it is," says Noel of the reunion. "But you still know there's something."

The siblings are already talking about their next gathering, and Donald and Noel are considering moving to Florida so all three can be close to each other.

"There's a whole generation of people we don't know yet," David says. "This has been a day and a half of unimaginable things."
