These dolls are trying to make the STEM fields cool for girls

In the last few years, toys like GoldieBlox and Roominate have begun appearing on the market as part of an attempt to increase interest in the STEM fields – particularly among young girls.

STEM refers to the the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Taking this one step further, MGA Entertainment recently announced that they would be launching a series of dolls focused on the four STEM disciplines called Project Mc2.

Project Mcfeatures four dolls. MGA describes the girls as McKeyla McAlister (Mc2), a writer, hipster and undercover spy; Adrienne Attoms (A2), a Spanish culinary chemist; Bryden Bandweth (B2), a tweeting, digital photographer tech expert; and Camryn Coyle (C2), a genius who loves to skateboard.

Unlike many dolls, these girls not only differ in clothing and hair colour but physically have different heights, unique facial structure and (most importantly) different interests – each in one of the STEM fields.
