Target Canada to sell Roots when launching here this March

When Target opens its doors in Canada this coming March and April, their shelves will be stocked with apparel by quintessential Canadian fashion brand Roots.

Target recently announced the limited time collaboration, along with a long list of labels and celebrity brands that the new Canadian stores will carry.

Target will be partnering with Cordon Bleu chef Giada De Laurentiis to retail her cookware products, and will sell television host Nate Berkus’s home design collection. The make-up and accessories of cosmetic artist and Target mainstay Sonia Kashuk will also be available.

The stores will also carry clothing, shows and accessories by pro snowboarder Shaun White, and a line just for women from Los Angeles stylist Kate Young will be available until the end of May. Target Canada will also carry 12 of their own brands, including clothing labels Circo, Liz Lange and Mossimo Supply Co., food brands Archer Farms and Market Pantry, and home collection Threshold.

A special collection of hoodies and sweatpants by Roots will be available exclusively at Canadian Target stores for about three months after opening. Roots owners tell the Toronto Star that despite the “made in Canada” ethos they’ve been priding themselves on for decades, they’ve decided to go ahead with this collaboration, even though the Target line of Roots products is made in Asia.

“It’s the way of the world,” Roots co-owner Michael Budman tells the Star. A Target Roots hoodie will retail for $34.99 and will look and feel a little different then the $80 hoodie you’ll get at the actual Roots store.

The stores are scheduled to open in April and May in locations formerly occupied by Zellers.
