Taco Bell to roll out breakfast menu — but not in Canada

Nothing quite says fast food breakfast like greasy meat, syrup and carbs.

Taco Bell has plans to roll out their new breakfast menu in the U.S. starting March 27. Fast food fanatics will be happy to know it includes the chain's legendary Waffle Taco, currently available at selection locations only.

The Waffle Taco includes scrambled eggs, a sausage patty or bacon, melted cheese and syrup folded into a waffle. Yum!

The sad news? Canadians won't get a chance to taste the treat.

"At this time, there are no plans to bring the breakfast menu to Canada," Kertney Russell, public relations representative for Taco Bell Canada, tells Yahoo Canada Shine.

According the Associated Press, other U.S. breakfast menu items will include:

  • A.M. Crunchwrap – scrambled eggs, a hash brown, cheese and bacon, sausage or steak in a flour tortilla.

  • Bacon and Egg Burrito – Bacon, scrambled eggs and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla

  • Sausage Flatbread Melt – A sausage patty topped with cheese wrapped in a flatbread and grilled.

Taco Bell is vying to attract a younger male demographic with its new breakfast menu. In line with that goal, the chain plans to serve breakfast until 11:00 a.m., a half-hour longer than competitor McDonald's serves its Egg McMuffin.

McDonald's has dominated the breakfast fast food landscape in the U.S. with 20 per cent of sales coming from breakfast items. But Taco Bell intends to get a piece of that (taco-flavoured?) pie and place themselves in the number two spot. Last year, about four per cent of their U.S. sales came from breakfast items at tested locations.

Would you try Taco Bell's breakfast offerings if they were available in Canada?
