The Smart Bed makes itself: A lazy gal’s dream

A Spanish design company has created a Jetsons-worthy bed that's about to shake-up those morning routines. No more making the bed, folks. This bed makes itself.

OHEA's Smart Bed even has a built-in safety feature that will ensure it doesn't start making the bed while you're still in it.

SmartPlanet's Tuan C. Nguyen explains how it all works:

"When activated, a pair of small mechanical arms, with rollers attached, rises from a hidden compartment on the side to straighten and pull the cover over the bed. All the while, a set of platforms lifts the pillows as they are straightened out by cords attached to the pillowcases. When the process is complete, the pillows are dropped back into place."

It takes just 50 seconds for the Smart Bed to make itself.

The bed has two settings: manual and automatic. On manual, the user tells the Smart Bed when to make itself. On automatic, the bed will start making itself after it has been empty for three seconds. So if you get up to go to the washroom at night, be prepared for a fully made bed when you return.

The Smart Bed, which is not yet for sale, will come in five sizes. And no, can you use your favourite bedding on the Smart Bed. In the video, the bed appears to lack a top sheet and also seems to require that the pillows stay in place and not get tossed around by restless sleepers.
