Scorpion pizza, deep-fried Cheezies among menu items at this year’s Calgary Stampede

Scorpion-topped pizza. Not for the faint of heart.

Scorpion pizza, deep-fried Cheezies and bacon-wrapped corn are just some of the gut-busting menu items on offer at this year's Calgary Stampede.

The annual festival made the announcement on their blog Thursday to much buzz on social media. Other outrageous eats include an almost 2-foot long sausage, chocolate-dipped cookie dough (on a stick, no less) and Polish poutine.

"It's a collaboration between the midway department and our independent food vendors who are from all over North America," says Daniela Patino, Media Relations Coordinator, about the unique creation ideas. "Sometimes we have an idea and seek out a particular vendor or ask if anyone can do it, sometimes the vendor will come up with the new idea and present it to us."

Patino anticipates the scorpion pizza, crocodile sliders and deep-fried Reese's Pieces to be the Stampede's biggest sellers. Organizers are encouraging visitors to "have fun, let loose and escape from their 355 days a year diet," saying that the "10 days of stampede are all about trying something new and letting your taste buds explore."

In case you were wondering, the scorpions on the pizza are food-grade, salted and from a distributor in the United States.
