Pregnant L.A. bartender allegedly fired for not dressing like a “hooker”

A former Los Angeles bartender is suing her previous employer for firing her for being pregnant and not dressing enough like a "hooker."

Amanda Lambert's lawsuit against The Kings' Head Pub II in Studio City, Calif. alleges her manager claimed she dressed “too Midwest conservative, not California hooker.”

Her lawsuit cites pregnancy discrimination, wrongful termination, failure to prevent discrimination, negligence and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. She is seeking unspecified monetary damages, reports Los Angeles Daily News.

Court documents say Lambert was employed at the pub from May to July 2012, during which time many of her coworkers wore tank tops with shorts or skirts, but she preferred to wear pants.

A month into her employment, she became pregnant and informed the pub's general manager. At that point, she alleges the manager told her they did not like her, despite her never having been disciplined or warned about poor job performance in the past.

In July, she reportedly received a text message from the manager stating: “I just don’t know if it’s going to work out here … you’d be a better server and have only one shift, but you told me you can’t overdo carrying trays and food.”

In a meeting that followed, court documents say the manager told Lambert that the pub's owners were unhappy about the way she dressed, and then proceeded to fire her.

“Ms. Lambert was terminated due to her pregnancy and denial of the right to wear pants,” the law suit states.

However, pub employee Greg Schultz tells Huffington Post that female bartenders at the establishment usually wear pants.

"Sometimes during the hot weather, they're welcome to wear shorts or something but, about 90 percent of the time, bartenders are wearing pants," he says.

The Kings' Head Pub II have yet to formally comment on the case.
