‘Overly Attached Girlfriend’ meme terrifies boys everywhere

Justin Bieber's song"Boyfriend" got a hilarious fan treatment with a "Girlfriend" tribute video that, hopefully, not too many young men can relate to:

The video was a submission in contest, in which Bieber's fans were asked to write their own responses to his hit single, "Boyfriend."

Bieber explains the contest in a video for his fans:

"My new fragrance is called 'Girlfriend' and I wanted to do this whole idea where my fans will basically take my song 'Boyfriend' and make it into their own 'Girlfriend' version. Make your own version, rewrite it however you want to. I'll pick the best one and fly that person out to one of my concerts and have a meet and greet and stuff. It'll be fun, so make your own video right now. And I love you."

While the song is clearly a parody, being a clingy girlfriend is no laughing matter. Consider you become the scary girl in the video?

Guyism's Cass Anderson writes, "This girl has come to embody everything us men fear from a new girlfriend. The over-bearing, stalking, psychotic tendencies that we've been classically conditioned to be on constant alert for manifest themselves harmoniously into this new meme."

Screenshots of the unnamed crazy-eyed singer, dubbed online as "overly attached girlfriend," have received the meme treatment, with clingy statements like "I sewed my name on your shirts in case you forget you're taken" posted across them.

Slightly less creepy — and with higher production value — is the video "Toyfriend," a puppet parody of the same song.
