On Wednesdays we wear pink: How to wear pink without looking like a Plastic

These days, pink gets a bad rap; from our daughters being discouraged to liking pink toys to our sons being bullied for wearing pink clothing.

Regardless of what your favourite colour is, whether it’s pink, purple, blue or red – there should be no shame in wearing it so ignore the haters!

But whether you’re a professional or going on a date, it can still be tough to incorporate pink without sending the wrong message.

So what’s a gal to do?

In honour of the “Mean Girls” 10 year anniversary, here are some ways you can incorporate pink in to your everyday look.

Work/Professional setting

Whether you’re going in for an interview, big meeting, or are just trying to ramp up your office attire, there’s nothing wrong with adding a little pink to your ensemble. Just don’t go all out, Juicy Couture sweat suit on us, OK? Try starting with a soft pink nail polish like Essie’s ‘romper room’ from its Spring 2014 collection. Next layer a structured pink dress with a fitted navy blazer. If you’re office has a casual atmosphere try rolling up the sleeves or even a striped blazer instead! Ladies' Night

No, it’s just gonna be a few cool people and you better be one of them, biotch! So, the ladies are hitting the town, eh? You know it is possible to wear pink and still feel sexy, right? It’s all about that confidence! Try on a bodycon dress and layer a moto-style jacket over it. If you end up picking a hot pink dress, go easy on the makeup and try a clear lip-plumping gloss. [Top L-R: Forever 21 necklace, Bebe dress, Dior plumping lip gloss, Michael Kors ankle strap sandals, Babaton moto jacket]

Day date

Your face smells like peppermint. Playing hookie today? If you have lots of activities planned, keep your look casual on your date. Switch up the typical blue jeans and try out these cute beach-wash pink ones and tone the look down with a plaid or striped tee. [Top L-R: TNA plaid shirt, Joe Fresh jeans, Blue Jays cap, Converse sneakers, Gap striped t-shirt]

Date Night

I think everybody looks like royalty tonight. Look at Jessica Lopez. That dress is amazing. So you finally got the courage to ask out Aaron Samuels but you don’t know what to wear? Whether you’re grabbing a bite or watching a movie you’ll knock him dead with this adorable pink floral dress. If you’re not used to wearing floral, try pairing it with solids first and make your eyes pop with an extra coat of mascara! [Top L-R: J.Crew cardigan, Talula dress, Benefit mascara, BC Footwear wedges, Marc by Marc Jacobs clutch]

Gym day

I want to lose three pounds. OK – we’ve moved on from those three pounds and really just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Squeezing in a workout today? You’ll have a lot more fun adding a pop of colour to your work out gear rather than wearing that ancient college t-shirt you usually wear. [TOP L-R: Columbia sweater, Lululemon tank top, Under Armour shorts, Nike sneakers]

Bridal shower/brunch

I want my pink shirt back! The season of showers and brunches has arrived and with that a floral hint can go a long way. Dress this skirt up or down with a cardigan, blazer or denim jacket. Don’t forget to accessorize with your favourite baubles. Lazy day

These sweatpants are all that fits me right now. Whether or not someone shrunk your jeans this week, sometimes you just need a day to lounge. Throw on your favourite sweats, grab a book and take a on your patio. You deserve it!
