Office relationships most likely to result in marriage, says survey

Where is the best place to meet your spouse? The elusive answer is still hanging over many singletons heads, and depending on what survey you read, it is likely to vary.

An informal British survey of 2000 people has found that 14 per cent of couples who meet through work end up married, followed by 11 per cent who are introduced by friends.

By contrast, meeting at a nightclub or pub is more likely to result in a one-night stand, finds the survey, commissioned by the makers of "How I Met Your Mother."

"Being in a relationship where you work in the same place as your partner also means you have something in common before you even get to know each other, and being in the same career means you are both like-minded and have similar interests," says a spokesperson for the survey in a release.

Researchers also found that 51 per cent of people think the place or situation where you meet someone can affect how successful the relationship is.

This belief was so ingrained in survey respondents that close to one in five refused to pursue a relationship with someone because they believed how they met meant it was doomed before it started.

One in five surveyed also admitted to lying about how they met their significant other, and over half of those fibbing said it was because they were too embarrassed by the real story.

It's important to note that while this British survey suggests the workplace is the best place to meet a spouse, another recent U.S. survey claims the best place for finding long-lasting love is online.

That survey reveals that approximately 33 per cent of 19,131 American couples who married between 2005 - 2012 met their spouse online.
