Must-have boot trends for fall

Before it’s impossible to put your feet in anything other than clunky waterproof monstrosities, we can enjoy a few months where fashionable boots are more than sufficient.

The mild fall weather will disappear as quickly as the summer sun so get on the following fall boot trends before all you see on your feet is six inches of powder.

Motorcycle

Moto boots, also known as combat boots, have been kicking around for the last few seasons and still going strong. The masculine style of these boots makes you feel surprisingly sexy, and can be found with a variety of details ranging from zippers, grommets and buckles.

Don’t forget the comfort factor. Moto boots generally don’t squeeze your toes or make you suffer in non-breathable patent leather.

Our picks:

Sam Edelman Ridge Boot, $261.95

Marc Jacobs Calf Skin Motorcycle Ankle Boot, $368

Over-the-knee

Channel the adorable ginger, Puss in Boots with a great pair of over-the-knee boots. We saw some killer examples of this trend at Salvatore Ferragamo’s fall 2014 show but you can find a pair at a much lower price point.

Our picks:

Bandolino Taden Over the Knee Boot, $139.95 (Available at DSW)

Michael Kors Regina Over the Knee Boot, $327.38

Python

A particular neutral outfit is instantly vampy by the addition of a pair of python boots. Gucci’s fall 2014 show was peppered with python heeled boots paired with ’60s inspired bibbed dresses.

Our picks:

ASOS Acute Ankle Boot, $95.63

Cole Haan Vestry Short Boot, $348

Trainer-inspired

Spring and summer footwear was dominated by the emerging trend of wearing trainers with fashion-forward outfits. For fall, trainer-inspired boots are arriving in stores — try the trend if you dare!

Our picks:

Jeffrey Campbell Hi-Gear, $215

Michael Micahel Kors Skid Wedge Heels, $246.44

Lug sole

Lug sole boots got a bit of a makeover for fall this year. Typically, rugged Timberland boots come to mind when thinking about these practical thick-soled boots. This season, lug sole boots were one of the biggest footwear trends to emerge, reincarnated as playful, sexy boots suitable for events outside the construction site.

Our picks:

Report Signature Ashtin Leather Sole Boot, $137.81

Aldo ABEAWEN Boots, $99.99

Cutout details

An unexpected cutout in any piece of clothing or accessory is always fun. This year, you’ll be seeing a lot of boots and ankle booties with curious (but strategically placed) cutouts for an added dose of edginess.

Dolce Vita Nayla Shooties, $189

Call it Spring Collipace, $59.99
