Michelle Obama under fire for referring to herself as a ‘single mother’ during interview

First ladies of the United States: They’re just like us!

Well, except for the prestige, superior wardrobe and access to people and events that most of us could only conjure in our wildest fantasies of the good life.

But Michelle Obama proved that even with her incredible pedigree, she’s also prone to the occasional slip of tongue.

During a recent CBS News interview, where she discussed how tough it is to balance proper family nutrition with a hectic schedule, she accidentally referred to herself as a “busy single mother.”

She quickly corrected herself with a sentence constructed in PR heaven: "I shouldn't say single -- as a busy mother, sometimes when you've got the husband who's President, it can feel a little single, but he's there."

But despite her quick cover-up, the mother of two has still come under fire from single moms who are annoyed she would compare her life to theirs.

On the site Twitchy, one user commented: "Oh poor Michelle. Those nannies are not very helpful when you're ALL ALONE.....GEEZ..."

People also took to Twitter to criticize the first lady.

<blockquote><p>We single moms have to stick together, Michelle Obama. You must have it so rough. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Solidarity">#Solidarity</a></p>— Stevie J. West (@StevieJWest) <a href="https://twitter.com/StevieJWest/status/319971383310438400">April 5, 2013</a></blockquote><script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

But is it really that offensive?

The FLOTUS has been traveling cross-country and conducting countless interviews for the past few months to promote her healthy eating initiative, Let’s Move!, and, in the process, she’s been referring almost constantly to the single parents who realistically have a much tougher time than most in providing three healthy, home-cooked meals for their children.

It’s why she’s working to improve access to local farmer’s markets in communities across the U.S., among many other initiatives designed to make it easier for Americans to access fresh, healthy foods.

It also could be why she conflated her words. When you’ve been referring to the same thing over and over again and pair that with a tiring promotional schedule, these things are bound to happen.

Do you think Michelle Obama's slip-up was offensive?
