The menu barricade: Bad Olive Garden date goes viral

Everyone has a bad date story.

Not all bad dates, however, are so obviously bad they get live-tweeted by strangers.

Adam Howell, a product designer from Charlotte, N.C., was recently dining at an Olive Garden in Pineville when he witnessed a couple arguing at a nearby table.

At one point, the man took a silent-treatment gesture to a new, ridiculous level: he constructed a menu fort to avoid looking at his date.

Howell took a photo of the couple and tweeted:

He then provided a play-by-play for his Twitter followers.

While the waitress soon took the menu barricade away, the couple continued to ignore each other throughout their meal by staring at their phones. Fortunately, Howell was able to give his followers an update with a happy-ish ending:

Howell's initial tweet went viral — likely because everyone can relate to the dinner date gone bad.

Fortunately for the couple, this story is actually a pretty mundane one. Although hopefully once they learn that the passive-aggressive gesture went viral, it will affect their conflict-resolution skills in the future.

A 21-year-old Florida woman was recently carjacked on her first date — by her date.

And in Arizona, a man staged a knife attack to impress his date. It didn't work.

What was the worst date you've ever been on?
