Man, 82, advertises his search for a wife with sign around his neck

If finding love is your New Year's resolution, maybe Sandy McCulloch's bold approach will inspire you.

McCulloch, 82, of Corvallis, Oregon, wants a wife — and he's not afraid to let everyone know it. Around his neck hangs a sign that reads: "Wanted: a wife."

A few requirements for future Mrs. McCulloch suggests she must be over 60, love books, have a sense of humour and live locally.

"People look for a wife for different reasons when they are 20 or 25 than when they are my age," McCulloch, a non-fiction short-story writer, tells the Corvallis Gazette-Times. "I'm looking for companionship."

McCullock was divorced three times by the age of 39. He claims he learned from those mistakes and in the decades since has "cleaned up his act."

He was inspired to make his search public when a hospital greeter asked him if she could assist him while he waited for a friend. He told her that the only assistance he needed was a wife.

The greeter joked that he should wear a sign around his chest, as there were many single women working at the hospital.

Since then, McCulloch has tried the sign approach, wearing it occasionally but strategically. His first outing was at a local sandwich shop Old World Deli where he sells his non-fiction stories three days a week.

"The response was rather amazing and delightful," he says of his first day wearing the sign. "It's the closest I’ve ever come to being a rock star in a room full of people."

When asked about the wide-spread publicity his stunt is getting him, he chuckles.

"I'm not greedy, I just need one wife!" he says. "In all honesty, I don't know if this will lead to anything. If nothing else, it has been a lot of fun."

It's never too late to look for love — and to have a little fun doing so.
