The Leatherdos: A toolkit hidden in your hair

The Leatherdos.

Gone are the days of picking locks with bobby pins.

The Leatherdos hair clip is seven tools in one: three different screwdrivers, a ruler, a cutter, a trolley coin — which can take the place of a coin in a grocery cart — and an 8 mm wrench.

(Good luck getting through airport security with this in your hair.)

This stainless steel "toolbox on the go" can tighten the screws in your sunglasses, score fruit, peel a carrot, cut through a rope, crack open a nut and even act as a candle holder, supporting a burning wick.

Not bad for a little hair accessory. And it only costs $9.

Created by Israeli designer Yaacov Goldberg, the Leatherdos was initially conceived as a clip for securing mens' yarmulkes to their hair.

"For years I dreamed of an 'upgraded' kippa clip and I always saw my religious friends using their kippa clip for all sorts of things," Goldberg tells the Hebrew-language website NRG.com, according to a Buzzfeed translation. "I decided to take the idea one step forward and prove that one can truly use a kippa clip for any use."

Others tools-disguised-as-accessories include:

The Titanium Utility Ring, a custom-made ring made from "aerospace grade" titanium that features five tiny folding tools, including a saw blade and a comb.

According to Bruce Boone, the ring’s creator, "Although the comb is tiny, it actually does a surprisingly good job on the 'stache or head!"

Unlike the Leatherdos, this tiny tool doesn't come cheap: $427.49 CAD.

The Ringly doesn't come with any fancy blades or survival tools, but it does light up when your phone needs you. Intended to help your simplify your technology-dependent life, the ring is configured to notify you of the things you most want to be alerted of. (You can keep your phone off the table at lunch, and still know if the boss just texted you.)

The rings, which cost up to $180, are available for pre-order here.

And then there's this very practical gem. Contexture Design's Coffee Cuff is a gorgeous wooden bracelet that doubles as a cuff for your hot coffee cup. Too bad it's currently sold out.

Would you wear a toolkit in your hair? On your finger? Or do you prefer your accessories to stick to one job?
