Kim Kardashian in full bloom on the Met Gala red carpet

Kim Kardashian stepped out on the red carpet at the annual Met Gala on Tuesday night wearing a head-to-toe floral ensemble. And we really mean head-to-toe.

Kardashian wore a floral patterned Givenchy by Riccardo Tisco gown complete with a thigh-high slit. As if the fitted frock wasn’t enough, she topped off the look with matching shoes and gloves, although we’re confused where the dress sleeves end and the gloves begin (we're also a little scared by the fact that her arms blend into her outfit in many shots).

While the theme of the gala was “Punk: From Chaos to Couture,” it looks like the mom-to-be might have accidentally mistaken it for “Things You Found in the Garden” or “Upholstery You Stole from Your Grandma’s Couch.”

Kardashian was one of the stars who didn’t seem to fully embrace the punk theme in the same spiked-hair-and-studded-jacket way that Miley Cyrus and Sienna Miller did. But apparently, she never went through a punk phase, so can you blame her?

"I really didn't [go through a punk phase],” she told Vogue on the red carpet. “That's why I think Riccardo's vision of punk for me is the subtle version."

“"I love fashion and I really am excited to see everyone's take on punk. I know it's different for everyone and everyone has their own take on it."

Of course, Kardashian was joined by her beau Kanye West, who also donned Givenchy. He looked a bit more tame, though, in a suit and a plain white dress shirt. That’s a shame, because this is one of those times the singer’s infamous leather kilt (also by Givenchy) would have been a good option.

There was quite a bit of controversy surrounding Kardashian’s invitation to the gala in the first place. West attended last year, but the other half of Kimye was noticeably absent. Rumours swirled that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour had banned Kardashian, who she once allegedly called “the worst thing since socks and sandals," from the gala.

Now, things seem to be smoothed over between Wintour and Kardashian, probably thanks to West, who is “terrific” in Wintour’s books.

Kardashian not only got an invite to the star-studded gala (it's also worth nothing that Wintour wore a floral frock as well), but she also dined at Wintour’s home on Sunday evening.

It probably helps her case that West performed at the Met Gala and that Riccardo Tisci, who’s reportedly good friends with the rapper, co-hosted the event.

But while Kardashian didn’t exactly hit the nail on the head fashion-wise, we give her props for trying something different. After all, isn’t that what punk is all about?
