Is Kelly Bensimon fit to give diet advice? Celebrity pens ‘I Can Make You Hot! The Supermodel Diet’

It appears that having a background in nutrition is not required to write a diet book. The latest celebrity-turned-health-writer is Kelly Killoren Bensimon, the 44-year-old former model (not to be confused with supermodel) and single mother of two daughters, who starred in three seasons of the reality television show The Real Housewives of New York City.

Her new book espouses the 'KKB Supermodel Diet', where Bensimon claims you will lose 3-5 lbs. by following a strict diet for only three days and eating a well-balanced diet (including starchy carbs!) the rest of the week. But it's not quite as easy as it sounds.

During the three strict days, you'll have to banish oil, sugar, alcohol, nuts, salt and caffeine; make all your portions smaller (she suggests switching out your dinner-sized plates for salad plates); exercise for at least 20 minutes per day and get at least eight hours of sleep each night, reports the Daily Mail. For those of us who work for a living and don't have the luxury of nannies and housekeepers, this could be tricky.

A typical meal plan on a KKB Supermodel Diet day would look like this:

Breakfast: Kelly Green Juice, made up of blended mint, parsley, broccoli, kale, lime juice, lemon juice and water.

Lunch: Brown rice (skip the sauce) with chicken and vegetables.

Dinner: Lean steak, chicken or shrimp, with spinach and lemon juice.

The book is filled with basic recipes created in Bensimon's home kitchen, all the details you need to follow her 7-day 'supermodel' diet, and general insight about how to achieve a healthy relationship with food, how to curb cravings and even some myth-busters about foods we've typically been taught to be afraid of.

But why did she feel the need to write a diet book? Bensimon might have wanted to put her Columbia University writing degree to good use...but that's not the real reason. She was inspired by her personal experience with crash dieting as a young model and wanted to set a positive example for her daughters.

"My oldest is 13, my youngest is 11," she tells the Boston Herald. "So that's one reason I wanted to write this book. A lot of people in New York City don't have a healthy relationship with food."

Not only does Bensimon not have any nutrition expertise, but according to the Daily Mail, she doesn't even follow her own diet on a daily basis. She says she eats carb-filled lunches every day, and Sunday is a free-for-all.

"I feel that if you eat well every single say and if you have a hearty lunch, then you're able to process information better, deal with altercations better and have more energy throughout the rest of the day," she tells Fox News. "Sunday should be a day of rest where you let your body relax and just eat what you want, because if you're starving yourself or if you're on some kind of diet all the time, you need a little bit of a break."

According to the Boston Herald, television executives are already considering creating a new reality show based around the principles of Bensimon's new book.
