Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II get a Lego makeover

The Duchess of Cambridge made a Queen-approved wardrobe change earlier this year, and now she’s getting another makeover – but this time, in Lego form.

Ahead of the Royal Ascot, seven of the Royal Family’s Lego figures at Windsor’s Legoland have been given a makeover – complete with custom-made headpieces by royal hat-maker Rachel Trevor Morgan.

“What’s not to love about it really?” she tells the Press Association. “I mean, it’s just been such fun. They are all made in exactly the same way that we might be making our hats in the work room. “

“Each edge is still stitched as we would do in any of our hats, so the detailing is there and they are quite intricate.”

The Duchess of Cambridge’s Lego figurine is joined by Queen Elizabeth II, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall – and even Kate’s mom, Carole Middleton.

According to the Press Association, Morgan used her daughter’s perfume bottle as a model to shape the tiny hats.

The award-winning milliner, who called the project her “most unusual commission yet,” says that while she drew inspiration from all the women’s fashion senses, she also tried to add her “own imprint.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the royals in Lego form. In 2011, fans built a scale replica of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding at Westminster Abbey.

These pint-sized royals (and their tiny hats) will be on display at the Lego Buckingham Palace at Legoland until the Royal Ascot closes on June 21.
