How to get that just-left-the-gym glow — with makeup

First comes sportswear, then comes sporty skin.

It’s a beauty trend popping up on Fashion Week runways: glowing — almost sweaty-looking — bare faces.

Fashionista reports seeing the dewy look at at least four shows at New York Fashion Week so far: Alexander Wang, Creatures of the Wind, Prabal Gurung and DKNY.

This is one very wearable look we’re excited to embrace — it certainly beats this “marker liner” look.

Lucky for us — writers don’t always have time for the gym — this fresh-faced look doesn’t require an hour of cardio to achieve.

Here’s how the pros achieve an athletic glow with makeup:

They use double-duty products.

Lipstick on the cheeks, eyeshadows as highlighter. You might already have the supplies to create these looks at home.

At the Creatures of the Wind show, an “overheated” look was created with a tinted moisturizer — no powders here — and by rubbing soon-to-be-available shade Ligueria, a sheer bronze-brown lipstick from NARS, on the models’ cheeks.

At the DKNY show on Sunday, makeup artist Yadim spilled his secrets for creating “that glistening skin, sexy and sultry,” which included using the shimmery eyeshadow Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded as a highlighter.

Celebrity makeup artist Elaina Badro tells Beauty High that multi-purpose cream makeup sticks are an easy way to achieve that after-workout glow.

“Swiping a little colour on the eyelid as well as the cheeks and lips create a flushed look. After all, it is supposed to be natural!” she says.

They keep it light.

At the Alexander Wang show, the models’ soft athletic look was achieved with tight ponytails and dewy gold-brown shimmer swept across their eyelids.

(Frugal tip: Metallic shadows are in for fall. When spring comes, use the same gold and bronze shades you’re using now, just apply with a much lighter touch.)

Makeup artist Pamela Faller suggests using a bronzing gel to create a subtle highlight on the cheekbone.

And if you’re brave enough, skip the foundation altogether. Makeup artist Janeen Witherspoon only uses concealer where needed and avoids applying full-face makeup. Blush and highlighters with just a touch of shimmer add to the illusion of glowing skin.

Just stay clear of too much shimmer and shine, she warns, as “actual shine makes the face look greasy.

Of course, nothing beats taking care of your skin on a regular basis. Hydrate, eat well, use sunscreen, skip the cigarettes and get a good night’s sleep for healthy skin year round, regardless of beauty trends.

Will you go dewy and fresh-faced? Or are you too attached to the powder and eyeliner to go bare?
