Fourth grader’s pro-gay marriage essay becomes an internet hit

"It doesn't matter if it creeps you out, just get over it."

Those are the wise words of a Grade 4 student talking about gay marriage in an essay posted on the popular social networking website, Reddit.

"You shouldn't judge other peoples lives because if you was gay you wouldn't want people talking about you," the essay continues.

The essay, which has predictably turned this little boy into a web sensation, was posted Wednesday by the boy's teacher who says it was given a "C" grade because of poor grammar and spelling, but that it had excellent logical reasoning.

“I am not sharing this because of how perfect the sentences are, but because of how clear his thought process is on this specific issue,” the teacher writes on Reddit, under the username rafa3l2.

It is unclear the country of origin the boy and teacher are from.

After getting more than 400 comments on Reddit, major news sites picked up on the essay. Salon's Katie McDonough went as far to say it was "the world's most perfect argument in support of marriage equality."

The boy's assignment was to write a persuasive essay by choosing a topic and picking a side. But naturally, Reddit users have chosen to focus their comments on a range of things outside the actual nature of the essay's main argument.

There is a lengthy discussion going on about the public education system failing on multiple levels, including grammar and spelling.

"Terrible essay structure. Where's his introduction? All I see is a body and conclusion," writes davidvstheworld.

"There's zero structure to the paragraphs. Poor intro and new information is inserted into the conclusion. In the fourth grade fundamentals of writing should be taught," writes Signore.

The following commenter critiques public education in a more general sense.

"I sometimes feel like the main aim of K-12 in the public education system is to intimidate the confidence and creativity out of the individual," writes danc0nia.

And in response to the idea that the boy is merely parroting his parent's beliefs, one commenter writes:

"I would have written a paper very similar to this in forth grade (maybe even third grade) and my mom was and is against gay relationships/marriage. Not all kids just mindlessly parrot their parents." says celeryheist.

There you have it folks. One little boy's earnest attempt at getting an "A" lands him in the superstar category by accident. If only all Grade 4 school projects ended like this.
