Film geek proposes to girlfriend in movie trailer

Earlier this month, a surfer dude named Matthew set the wedding proposal bar pretty high when he bent down on one knee on a wakeboard to ask his girlfriend to marry him.

Well now a movie geek is getting in on the action, too, by asking his girlfriend to marry him in a movie trailer, shown on the big screen while the couple were at the theatre.

The video is a Frankenstein-like composition of Joe Wakim's fiancee's favourite movies, with Wakim super-imposed into famous movie scenes. It shows Wakim propositioning Julia Roberts' prostitute character from Pretty Woman for a wedding ring, getting manhood advice from a naked Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid Love, and refusing Frodo's precious ring in The Lord of the Rings.

“The actual editing and compositing took a few weeks or so,” Wakim tells When Geeks Wed. “But then I had to watch all of her favorite movies looking for cuts that I could use. So all together, including filming, maybe a month.”

He posted the end result to YouTube where the video has been seen more than 20,000 times since being posted on Sept. 18. In the string of comments, Wakim confirms that she says yes.

Good Morning America has expressed interest in interviewing Wakim, so be prepared to hear more about this romantic geek's backstory in days to come.
