Fall beauty refresher: The bold brow

Fall beauty refresher: The bold brow

When it comes to the latest beauty trend, it certainly seems that bold really is better.

Gone are the days of thin, barely-there brows. Thanks to the likes of big-browed beauties such as Lily Collins and Cara Delevingne, beauty fiends everywhere are embracing the bushy look and letting their brows grow out in full force.

But ladies, take note: this is not a license to forgo plucking. When it comes to rocking the bold brow look, you still need a little maintenance. Here are our easy, fool-proof tips to pulling it off.

1. Pick your weapons of choice. You'll need a slanted brush (we love MAC’s 208 Angled Brow Brush, $20) to apply brow liner with precision. Next, find a powdered shadow that matches your hair colour. Some people opt for products specifically designed for brows, but there's nothing wrong with using a dark eyeshadow.

2. Analyze your needs. Typically, women’s brows are sparse near their arches, so that’s always where you should start. Apply sparingly, using light strokes and following the natural growth of your hairs. You can (and should!) apply more later -- this is the key to bold brows. Once they're evenly filled in, then you can up the ante à la Cara Delevingne.

3. Forget the contouring trend. Bold brows pair well with simple, fresh skin, so skip highlighting underneath the arches of your brows and don't even think about blush and bronzer. Those bushy caterpillars should be the focal point of your face. If you really want to glam up your look, try coupling your brows with a deep lip.

"If eyes are the window to the soul, then brows are the frame," as the saying goes, so take your time honing this look. Start with a light hand, and gradually work your way up to runway-worthy brows. Trust us, you won't regret it!
