Emmys 2013 trend report: Who pulled off the sheer dress trend?

While several stars attempted to pull off sheer dresses at the 65th Emmy Awards, only a few ended up pulling it off.

Worst: Aubrey Plaza – “Parks and Recreation” actress Aubrey Plaza definitely got our attention when she arrived on the red carpet wearing a floor-length gown that Morticia Addams would approve of – but not exactly in a good way. While the dress she wore wasn’t technically sheer, it gave off the illusion that it was. The black lace overlay, long sleeves and turtleneck made this dress seem more fit for a funeral parlour than an awards show.

Better: Julianne Hough – While we usually love Julianne Hough’s effortless approach to style, we were not impressed by her too-revealing look on Sunday night. While the seafoam green Jenny Packham dress that the 25-year-old actress wore was pretty enough, it left very little to the imagination. Is it just us, or is the sheer skirt trend a little passé?

Best: Laura Dern – “Enlightened” actress Laura Dern may have lost out to Julie Louis-Dreyfus for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, but she won us over when it came to her red carpet style. The 46-year-old looked absolutely stunning in a sheer Naeem Khan dress with pretty beaded detailing. The gorgeous colour made this frock pop without being too overpowering, and the lovely beading kept it from looking too sheer.
