Editor Tested: President’s Choice Mini Raspberry Cheesecake Chocolate Cups

The third season of the CBC show “Recipe to Riches” launched last night and with it a new lineup of delicious eats that will be available through select Loblaw banner stores.

The reality cooking competition sees home cooks pitting their beloved family recipes against one another in five categories for the chance to have their recipe turned into a President’s Choice product, plus a cash prize of $25,000 with a chance at a $250,000 cash prize at the show’s finale.

The opening episode was a battle for dessert glory and saw BC native Jesse Meredith’s Mini Raspberry Cheesecake Chocolate Cups take the cake. Each package contains 10 pieces and retails for $7.99.

Our editors had the opportunity to taste test his winning recipe ahead of the show’s debut. Here’s what we thought.

Hilary: I was pleasantly surprised by this chocolately treat! Although chilled, store-bought desserts can often be a recipe for disaster, these Mini Raspberry Cheesecake Chocolate Cups were just right. The chocolate was rich, but not too overpowering, and the cream cheese and raspberry filling didn’t taste like it came from a box at all. I would definitely serve these tiny treats at a party. Overall rating: 8/10.

Caitlin: I’ve never been a big fan of cheesecake, but these Mini Raspberry Cheesecake Chocolate Cups may have changed that! They’re the perfect size for when you’re looking for just a little bit of a sweet treat or watching your portions. The flavours all blended well together, although I couldn’t really sense the graham cracker crust at all. I’d love to see PC expand the flavour options beyond raspberry – cherry, blueberry or salted caramel, anyone?! These delicious little treats will definitely be front and centre at the next party I host. Overall rating: 9/10.

Simone: Yum! A frozen dessert that actually tastes homemade? What a surprise! I absolutely enjoyed the creaminess of the filling combined with the perfect amount of raspberry jelly. However, I have to say I really missed the graham cracker crust and would rather have less of the chocolate cup. If you’re ever strapped for time and want to impress your friends at your next party, this is the product to go for. 7/10
