Editor Tested: Kraft Chocolate Peanut Butter

Kraft Canada and their iconic Smooth and Crunchy peanut butter bears recently stopped by the Yahoo Canada offices to let us sample their new chocolate peanut butter flavour ahead of its launch. It's available in stores nationwide starting February 17 and the price varies by region.

We sampled it on bread, toast, crackers, apples, bananas and even straight up. Here's what our editors thought.

Simone: At first, I thought the idea of combining peanut butter and chocolate would be a match made in heaven. But after sampling this product, I can't say that I see myself as a big fan of it. It has a weird texture (it's not sticky the way the average peanut butter is) and left a strange aftertaste. Perhaps the product could be improved by adding chunks of peanuts, swirling the peanut butter and chocolate, and/or reducing the hydrogenated oil. Overall rating: 4/10.

Gilean: While it's a little too sweet for breakfast, this would be perfect for baking. Chocolate peanut butter cookies, marshmallow squares and even lava cakes… the list could go on! Overall rating: 6/10.

Caitlin: As a rule, I don't eat panut butter, and it's been years since I've had the Kraft brand. I remember Kraft peanut butter having a distinct taste to it and I found the new Chocolate PB didn't have that iconic flavour. In fact, it didn't really taste too much like peanut butter or chocolate. The mouthfeel of the solidifiers (cocoa butter, hydrogenated vegetable oil) was not pleasant and left a greasy feeling in my mouth. I think it would make an excellent addition to baked good recipes, but I'll be sticking with my natural almond butter. Overall rating: 5/10.

Hilary: Peanut butter and chocolate are two of my favourite things, so I was really excited to try this mashup of the two. While I thought the blend would taste a lot like a peanut butter cup, I found the chocolate taste to be very overpowering – I didn’t taste much of the peanut butter at all, and the texture was quite oily. I would love to see a regular peanut butter with some fudgey swirls. Overall rating: 6/10.
