Canadians prefer sex over sweets this Valentine’s Day, survey finds

Hoping to score brownie points and really charm the pants off your sweetie this Valentine's Day? You might want to consider spicing things up in the bedroom -- and ditching the chocolates.

A recent survey of over 1,500 Canadians found that the majority of those polled would prefer to have sex over receiving a gift this Valentine's Day, including 73 per cent of men and 50 per cent of women.

The survey, conducted by digital coupon website RetailMeNot.ca, also discovered that the most popular gifts are traditional favourties like cards, chocolate or candy, and flowers.

A significant portion of men were shown to be procrastinators (surprise surprise!) when it comes to buying gifts, with 27 per cent saying they plan to purchase their gifts the day before Valentine's Day or the day of.

The good news is that cost doesn't seem to be a concern for most this year, as only 20 per cent of both men and women say they are worried about money this Valentine's Day. Almost 90 per cent of those polled say they plan to spend the same amount or less as they did last year.
