Burning off the binge: How to work off your Halloween candy

Burning off the binge: How to work off your Halloween candy

Halloween candy is tiny. Surely it can’t do that much damage to your diet, right?

Well, dust off those running shoes. We’re taking a look at some of our favourite trick-or-treat indulgences and what it takes to burn them off.

Candy Corn (140 calories)

Just one small bag (about 26 pieces) of Brach’s Candy Corn will cost you an extra 19 minutes on the tennis court, or 48 minutes of marching in your local Halloween parade.

Tootsie Roll (25 calories)

You’ll burn off more than just one Tootsie Roll while trick-or-treating with your kids. Walk for a quarter-mile — about 500 steps — and your waistline will never know you indulged.

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar (67 calories)

Dance off your chocolate bar at the costume party in just 15 minutes.

Two fun-size packs of Milk Chocolate M&Ms (180 calories)

Because you can’t stop at one. Burn off Friday night’s candy binge at an apple orchard on Saturday morning. One hour of apple picking should do the trick.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup (110 calories)

Love your Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups? So do we. Just keep in mind that burning off one “cup” requires about seven minutes of jogging at a 10-minute-mile pace.

Rocket Candy Rolls (25 calories)

We can’t resist the pastel, Aspirin-looking Halloween staple. Fortunately, one roll is just 25 calories — which can be burned off with five minutes of chopping firewood (or six minutes of treading water).

Hershey’s Kisses (200 calories)

Let’s be honest: we’re going to eat a handful of these. Eat 10, and you’re looking at a 35-minute bike ride or 16-minute run to even the caloric score.

Skittles (250 calories)

Burn off that package of Skittles with a long 62-minute walk. (Don’t have the time? You can run it off in 24 minutes.)

Licorice (70 calories)

Burn off one full-size piece of licorice with 25 minutes of yoga.

What candy will you be burning off on Nov. 1?
