Becky G talks shower, beauty and fashion must-haves

If you haven’t heard of Becky G, there’s a good chance you’re living under a rock.

The singer’s infectious single “Shower” already has a whopping 28.5 million views on YouTube, and even though she’s only 17, she’s well on her way to becoming the next pop princess.

In honour of her hit single, Yahoo Canada Shine caught up with the singer to talk about her shower-time must haves, as well as her beauty routine and personal style.

Yahoo Canada: Can you take us through your shower routine?

Becky G: I saw this meme, this Instagram picture and it was a circle – like a pie, and it divided the time that you spend in the shower. And I would say I spend about fifty per cent of the time just standing there in hot water, not thinking about anything. And then I’m a wash the hair then the body type person.

YC: What’s your shower-time must-have?

BG: I really love scrub gloves. Scrub gloves are the little exfoliator gloves that you get. Those are my favourite. I also wash my face in the shower, with acne treatments and stuff.

YC: What is your favourite song to sing in the shower?

BG: TLC’s “Waterfalls.”

YC: Why’s that?

BG: I don’t know why actually! It’s just one of my go-tos.

YC: Is it a karaoke go-to as well, or is it limited to the shower?

BG: I think it’s more so just in the shower.

YC: Do you prefer to shower in the morning or at night?

BG: I’m more so of a nighttime person, because after a long day, the best feeling is taking a shower and getting into a clean bed and just feeling clean and like you’ve washed away all your problems and stress.

YC: On to a different topic – how do you get ready for the day? What’s your usual beauty routine?

BG: I always start by doing my hair first, just because that takes the longest because I have so much hair. So I always do my hair first, and then I go on to my makeup. I do the basic things, of course I always moisturize my face every morning and every night, which is important to get in the habit of. And then I just start with foundation and build up and then go to my eyes, and just kind of take it from there. It really depends on the day and what I’m going to be doing.

YC: How long does it take you to get ready?

BG: I can get ready within the hour, but usually I like to take about an hour and a half on a chill day. I’m either texting or listening to music at the same time or semi-cleaning up my room around the same time. But I can be pretty quick if I have to be.

YC: What is the one makeup item you can’t leave the house without?

BG: Mascara! I love mascara. Because even when you don’t have any other kind of makeup on, it wakes you up a bit and makes your eyes look bigger and brighter.

YC: Let’s talk about fashion now. How would you describe your personal style?

BG: My personal style reflects my music. My music and how I dress is just how I express myself – it’s just me. My music is urban pop, and my style of dressing is urban but still girly. I like that combination – the contrast is very nice.

YC: If you could only own five pieces of clothing, shoes or accessories, what would they be?

BC: I love big summer dresses, and it sucks because I’m such a little person, so I always have to be very specific about which ones I put on. But I would say big summer dresses, a pair of wedges, and then sneakers. And of course, a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

YC: What are some of your favourite clothing brands?

BG: I would say one of my absolute favourites is Joyrich. I love, love Joyrich. I would say you can catch me wearing it about 50 per cent of the time. And then of course the basics like H&M and Forever 21. Those are always perfect go-tos.
