Baker’s graduation cake mistake is hilarious, goes viral on Reddit

An Indiana baker who misheard a customer request for a university graduation cake ended up making a hilarious cake which has started to make internet waves.

Indiana mother Carol Gambrel, 59, requested a cake for her daughter Laura Gambrel's graduation from Indiana University. On the cake, perched on top of a photo of Laura, sits a cat.

The reason? The baker misheard Carol's request for a "cap" and thought she said "cat." The family now calls it the "cat cake."

After an image of the cake was posted on Reddit by the daughter, it has gone viral with over 4900 up votes and 415 comments as of Tuesday.

"I can only image them doing it and thinking I was going to vet school or something," Laura tells Good Morning America.

It's a blessing the family has a good sense of humour and weren't mad. Instead, Carol decide to leave the cake as it was.

"When I went to pick it up at the store, I could not stop laughing," says Carol. "I told them not to scrape it off. It was one of those young kids behind the counter and he seemed a little distracted with someone else ordering a cake a foot away from us. We went through the school colors and everything, and I said, 'Oh, could you draw a cap on her head?' And he gives me this look."
