Abandoned sisters reunited after 66 years apart

Karen Simpton, of Auburn, allowed KCRA 3 to come along as she reconnected with her sister, Anne, after 66 years. Anne flew to Northern California this month for a long-overdue reunion. As girls in 1948, Karen and Anne were abandoned by their parents

In 1948, Karen Simpton and her four siblings were abandoned by their parents at an orphanage in Portland, Oregon.

Karen, who now lives in Auburn, California, recently reconnected with her sister Anne, thanks to Internet searches and Facebook.

After 66 years of living apart, the sister finally reunited at Karen's home. The sisters invited KCRA-TV to film their tearful reunion.

"You've grown up," Anne tells Karen when she sees her for the first time in decades. "You were a 12-month-old when I saw you."

Karen tells KRCA-TV that she grew up with a brother, but always wanted a sister to play with.

As for Anne, she's just happy to have Karen back in her life.

"I haven't really cried until now," Karen responds, wiping the tears from her eyes.

KCRA reports that Karen is now planning another reunion — one with her older brother. Cousins, siblings and other relatives are expected to attend.
