On the First Day of Christmas, My True Love Gave to Me...

Nothing. Because I'm single.

The holidays are right around the corner, and those who are in relationships are busy hopping between department stores in search of the perfect tie clip or perfume bottle. And those that are single? Well, let's just say we are busy trying new cookie recipes and dressing our pets in Santa hats.

Just Kidding. But, if I had a pet…

Anyways, the month of December really makes being single difficult. First there is Christmas (or Hanukah) and then New Years Eve quickly follows. We don't get a minute to breathe from not opening a gift from someone special to not kissing someone special at midnight. Maybe the Mayans were right. And I am sure most single people are crossing there fingers.

But there is so much more to be joyous about this holiday season than not having someone to kiss underneath the mistletoe. Think of all the friendships you have made this past year. Remember the good times spent with family members. Even remember the relationships we had.

December is a great time to reflect on the memories we have made and the changes we want to make. It is the end of a year, and coming January first, we are gifted with a clean slate and given the opportunity to evolve and adjust. And I think that is a much better gift than a new wallet or a gift card to Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

Don't let the words "single" and "alone" affect your holiday! Celebrate your friends and family and shower them with gifts of appreciation and gratitude. Don't sit home alone, but instead invite some friends over and watch Home Alone. If Macaulay Culkin can't make you feel better, then I don't know what will.

Being in a relationship over the holidays is overrated anyways. Enjoy your "you" time and forget that you don't have someone to give seven swans a swimmin'! And, most importantly, just remember to always….oh wait, my cookies are done!
